Calamares Recipe

If there is one thing that really saves us from all our stressors, it is our delicious breaks. Taking a break is an integral part of our process. We are not going to sit here and deny that our mood turns sour when we are working hungry. Truth be told, we easily get irritated even with the smallest things when our bellies are gurgling. Don’t get us wrong, of course we are working on being extra patient too but yes, we think our breaks are heaven sent.

Calamares

We have a lot of different ways to spend our break, but obviously, our favorite is by having a snack. You all know our snack gaming is unparalleled and we are here to prove it to you guys yet again! We do enjoy the occasional ready-to-eat snacks, but whenever we got the extra time, we make sure to make it ourselves too. Cooking in our humble kitchen is one of our de-stressors, after all.

That said, for today, we are not only sharing woth you one of our favorite goodies to munch om, but also how to make it! Calamares is Filipinos’ take on Calamari, the breaded fried squid dish that is common in the Mediterranean. As much as Calamares is also a popular appetizer that can be found on restaurants here in the Philippines, it is also actually a well-loved street food by many, including us.

As much as we were busy with our responsibilities, we really tried our best to squeeze in our schedule us cooking and gobbling down our very own Calamares. We also were not able to find street-food-Calamares so we really just went onto making our own. This way, we will be able to bread it, season it, and fry it how much we want so this really was a win-win situation for us! We were able to de-stress in two ways to put it simply.

Anyway, cooking Calamares is honestly an easy task, so for real, we have no complaints. We just looked for the freshest squid we could find, cleaned it, sliced it into rings, covered it in breading, seasoned it, and then fried it. Not gonna lie, we had a few pieces here and there while cooking, but most of it we ate after we were done with everything. We also made our own dipping sauce by combining finely chopped red onion, garlic, chilis, and vinegar.

Truly, pairing our Calamares with spiced vinegar went amazingly well for us, but of course, if you prefer other dipping sauces such as ketchup, mayonnaise, or even sweet chili sauce, then by all meams, go for it! Calamares goes good with almost everything anyway—yes, even with drinks! Believe us, this dish is great as a pulutan for your next inom sesh too!
