About this vintage design furniture

This lovely Syrian tray table was bought by a British serviceman who was stationed in the Middle East during the 1950s. We bought this lovely piece from his son. It is intricately inlaid with various fragments of wood and bone - almost micro mosaic - which runs down two sides of all six legs, the inlay continuing across the stretchers. On top of the folding base sits a large, beautifully detailed, hand-crafted brass tray decorated with impressed symbols of birds, Islamic symbols, and figures - to the centre an image depicting two figures on horses in a landscape, with birds, deer, pyramids and trees. The brass tray has been lovingly polished over the years, with remnants of polish around the folded pie-crust edge, and age related tarnish to the underside. Some minor loss to the inlay on one of the legs as shown in the last image, and a slight twist to one of the legs, but still a very sturdy piece that sits well. Reference : 253741
