Allen Auction Tops $1 Billion, Freud Sets Own $86 Million Record
The record-breaking sale blew past expectations with a handful of star lots in its first half.
A painting by Lucian Freud that set an auction record for the artist when it sold for $5.8 million in 1998 has done it again.
Large Interior W11, which Freud painted between 1981-1983, carried a $75 million presale estimate at Christie’s on Wednesday night, and ended up selling, with auction house fees, for $86.3 million.
